Knowing the Professional Tricks in Pet Grooming

Making your furry friends look and smell wonderful can be a most challenging task, especially with temperamental ones. Although you may opt to have your darlings washed and combed by a specialist every now and then, you still need to do some basic maintenance on them in order to observe good hygiene. Now, if you feel your brows tense at this thought, perhaps you could use a few tips on how to get your animal buddies appear more satisfactory. Find a few of them enumerated below:

  • Brush their fur before bathing them
  • This is to ensure that you will not have a hard time detangling their hair when it is wet or take too long to dry it. Also, use the right bristled tool when you do so. Use the slicker type as it is good for virtually any kind of coat. You can use a comb for animals with longer fringes.

  • Follow the right order in washing
  • Start from the back and work your way to the front. Their head should be the last as they do not like having water in their ears. When you rinse them, do the sequence in reverse this time. Be sure that all the soap is removed and that it does not get in their eyes.

  • Do detangle with care
  • To help you do this without worrying much about whether you are hurting your pet, sprinkle some cornstarch on knotted portions as these can now be loosened effectively by hand.

  • Trim nails
  • Instead of cutting them, use an emery board to file them into the right length. This helps reduce the likelihood that your canine friend will fight you or that you might nip it too close to the base.

  • Brush teeth slowly
  • Dogs are especially the ones plagued with periodontal disease. As such, daily, or at least weekly, oral cleaning is highly recommended. You can do this by letting him or her lick off a bit of toothpaste from your finger before running it around their mouth carefully. Reward with a treat if good behaviour was displayed. When he or she is used to this routine, you can try using the toothbrush.

  • Feed them right
  • You will know if you are doing this if your buddy has a shiny, thick coat. Give them wholesome meals that involve meat and supplement it with a teaspoon of fish oil.

  • Clean facial area regularly
  • Put some rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball and swab it around and inside edges of ears. Use a saline solution for the eyes.

If you want to enter your pet in a competition, give them a new look for such an occasion. You can try having their lashes professionally permed or tinted, especially if these are long.
